#Tanzania: A Citizen Reflects On Nation’s Plight Ignored by Government

The mere thought that the president of the United Republic Of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, would ridicule the ongoing massive public demonstrations that took place in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Mbeya, and Arusha, says a lot about her ill-begotten administration and what it stands for.

Insensitively, she quipped, “I have allowed them to do public demonstrations, and I will continue to give them police protection so they can walk, get up on stage to air their grievances, and then go home.” This kind of tone would explain why she has not heeded our call for constitutional reforms and more independence for the electoral commission ahead of the 2024/25 elections.

I am incandescent with rage over her recent snide remarks.

In response to the government’s indifference to the people’s demands, Freeman Mbowe, leader of the main opposition party, CHADEMA, has now announced nationwide demonstrations in all major cities across the country from 22nd to 30th April 2024.

I’m now going to talk directly to development partners and donors.

Don’t believe a word Samia Suluhu Hassan says. Don’t believe the photo ops she tactfully creates to give you the impression that she is a reformist. She’s doing all of that for the cameras, to continue bleeding your taxpayers’ money for her gain and that of her cohorts. None of what she does to make you believe in her is real.

And so I urge you to stop the funding to allow us, the people of Tanzania, to effectively deal with this illegitimate regime through peaceful demonstrations until it buckles.
