Enforced disappearances under Tanzania’s autocratic rule in the lead up to the 2024–2025 elections

12 September 2024 — The hashtag #FreeDeusdedithSoka has been trending for 25 days. Yet, the Tanzania authorities–who are behind these abductions–have done nothing about releasing this young activist and his friends who were abducted on August 18, read my article #FreeDeusdedithSoka: Tanzania’s Gen Z Activist Abducted by Samia’s Thugs.

In the meanwhile, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whom you would expect to act as comforter-in-chief, has said nothing to condemn these abductions. Why? Because she orders the kidnapping. Her people went on to abduct and murder CHADEMA secretariat member Ali Mohamed Kibao, and without a modicum of shame she rears her ugly blood-soaked head on X to say she condemns the killings and instructs the police to investigate. How does the police investigate itself, I wonder?

New York Times article Killing of Tanzanian Opposition Official Adds to Fears of Pre-election Crackdown, paints a chilling account of the situation and obvious desperation of the Samia Suluhu Hassan government to cling to power no matter how high the human cost.

CHADEMA party chairman Freeman Mbowe is calling for the involvement of Scotland Yard in investigating the atrocities in Tanzania. This will rattle Samia, I cannot see her agreeing to this. But the icing on the cake for me is the hashtag Mbowe pushed, #SamiaMustGo.

The international community is well aware of what’s going on in Tanzania, we’ve made a lot of noise about this and we continue to AMPLIFY, what I’m wondering is what their taxpayers think about their taxes funding a psychotic dictatorship.

We need the international media to sensitize the public regarding their hard-earned money being spent on a government that is behind the abduction, torture, murder, and rape of its people.

And young lawyer and activist Tito Magoti is now being hunted, he revealed the threat on X a couple of days ago. Where on earth is this nation headed? We have an inept government that has done nothing for the people except plunge them into extreme poverty despite all the natural resources, all they want is to hold on to power by the barrel of the gun. Despicable.

Enough is enough, let’s now push the hashtag #SamiaMustGo.
