Tanzania’s indigenous Maasai are facing forced eviction from their ancestral land, they need our support.

30 March 2024 — The Tanzanian government is land grabbing Maasai ancestral land on the pretext of conservation. Let’s be honest, the indigenous Maasai are excellent conservationists of the Ngorongoro ecosystem. Reading through the World History Encyclopedia, you’ll learn that the Maasai have lived in Ngorongoro and looked after the vast expanse of territory from the 16/17th century — hundreds of years. Nobody is more qualified in its conservation than them.

Forced Maasai Evictions in the Name of Conservation.

Samia Suluhu Hassan’s Maasai evictions in the name of conservation excuse doesn’t wash, it’s a lie. What she’s doing is selling off Maasailand to so-called investors who will destroy the ecosystem with five-star hotels, and worse yet, expand their reckless hunting expeditions and illegal animal evacuations that are already depleting animal populations.

Samia’s War On the Maasai — an article published today by Maria Sarungi Tsehai after an assassination attempt on a member of parliament last night, speaks to you in a way that awakens your emotions as it paints a poignant picture of the extent to which Tanzania’s illegitimate government will go to have its way.

Be sure to browse links embedded in the article to get a broader understanding of the plight of the Maasai, and the persecution they endure at the hands of a relentlessly brutal, corrupt, authoritarian regime.

What is going on in Ngorongoro is genocide. Full stop!

When a government removes medical facilities to force people off their land, that’s genocide. The Tanzanian government is doing just that, and much more besides. It makes my blood boil.

Susanna Nordlund publishes a very detailed blog about the threats against Maasailand in Loliondo — get an insight into Thomson Safaris, that claim 51 km2 of grazing land as their private nature refuge; OBC, that keep lobbying the Tanzanian government to grab 1,500 km2 from the Maasai (a crime brutally and lawlessly committed in 2022) — and ruthless hypocrisy, lies, intimidation, and violence. Visit her blog, here.

Do your bit to help.

As citizens of the world, we call upon everyone who is touched by the sufferings of the Maasai in Tanzania, to begin sharing their story. For these atrocities to stop we need to continue to build awareness of the abominable injustices being committed by the Tanzanian government against them.
